So today, a tree came crashing through our backyard on account of intense wind. This tree decided it'd snag itself on the electricity wire going from the street to our house, leaving me without any electricity starting at about 9:30am until around 5:45pm.
So, to pass nine or so hours, I did a few things. For the first time in years, I dug out my Legos and goofed around with those for a few hours. Then, I played a little bit of Pokemon Yellow, which I'm absolutely sick of by now, after playing Blue, and then Red, and now Yellow. (Gold or Silver would be nice) And finally, after playing a little Wario Blast (Bomberman with Wario Cameo) I decided to draw the man himself. Originally I was going to try and replicate the artwork on the cartridge, but I ended up with this.
So yeah. The only reference art I used was the tiny little Gameboy Cartridge. Hand-inked, colored with standard Crayola Colored Pencils. The scan made some of the colors bleed a little bit, and some of the colors look different on the scan than they do in person. The only complaint I have is that Wario's legs are too long (they're actually pretty stubby). Also, I colored his eyes light blue first, but realized they were yellow - tried to erase the blue the best I could, but, you know, colored Pencils never erase very well. You probably can't tell, but they're actualy more of a muddy green than they are yellow.
Really neat, although I would never 'ave noticed it hadn't you posted it on the PA forums I just now decided to lurk a bit... Neat, though, I like it. You should do him over and over in many different poses, all over your bedroom wallpaper. Ho'yes...
Definately a great way to pass time, that's for sure!
I actually don't see a whole lot of Wario fanart... or much that I can really remember, anyhow. XD I really like the thick dark outline. It really adds sort of a cartoonish touch. Very well done, especially with very small picture referance. Nice pose, too, and the color is really nice and smooth. I always use Crayola colored pencils myself =] They work well.
No worries, though; his eyes look like a slightly darker shade of yellow than you probably used, but they still look yellow.
