Just browsing DA and I noticed that it's been exactly one year since my slightly depressing blog about whining about not drawing enough.
Surprise! I still want to draw more. I was actually in Hobby Lobby over Christmas, shopping for a gift for my Mom (she's a big craft nut) and walking through the art supplies made me super super super nostalgic. All of these nice pens and paper and canvasses and paints and guides on proportion and perspective and design. The smell, too. It smelled like art class.
I've drawn a bit here or there, but nothing worth submitting. When I draw nowadays, the thing I get hung up the most on is arms. Where to position them. How to position them. I'll draw an entire character's body, get to the arms, and go "Okay, now what?"
Somebody put the bug in my ear about a month or two ago that I should get a kickstarter going. I could get in to iOS game development pretty easily if I had $3000-$5000. That would be an iOS license for the middleware I use, some kind of iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad for testing, a MacBook to publish the game with (apparently you can't just use a PC from what I've been told), with leftover money going towards stuff like advertising, hiring a composer, and maybe getting me a Cintiq to make doing graphics easier.
I don't know if I'm ready to take the plunge. I don't think I have enough confidence in myself, among a hundred other reasons. Kickstarter's been on a lot of people's minds lately, though, what with the Doublefine Adventures stuff. Lately, there hasn't been a day that goes by that I haven't thought about it, even a little.
As for what I've been doing over the last year, well, me and my cousin have started doing Let's Plays.
We're winding down on Max Payne 1 and we started Dead Space. Been pretty fun. We're building a small fanbase, though most of them are still back at my regular Youtube channel (we only just launched the exclusively-for-LPs channel fairly recently). We also are trying to get a website launched to house this stuff, but that's been a bear. Finding the right wordpress theme to fit our needs has been tedious.
And of course, I've been writing fairly regular blogs here:
More importantly, I finally did a new video review! I actually had a pretty good stream of good luck with this; blip.tv upgraded my channel so it looks all fancy, I got accepted so I could distribute episodes on Roku boxes, and my new video review made me like $8 in revenue and is my most popular video review to-date. I should probably do another one to keep some semblance of momentum going, but I always have so much on my plate at any given time. I swear I probably have A.D.D. or something. If you want to watch the new video review, or any of them for that matter, just click here:
I also decided to get on Twitter in the last year.
And if you just want to check one URL and see all this stuff mashed together in to a single feed, this might help:
Though GiantBomb's user blog RSS died recently and they haven't provided an ETA on when it'll return.
I also have something coming up in the next month or so, and it's super tempting to link you guys to an early version of that, but I'll keep it under my hat for now.
See you... next year?
